I like the bad boys
February 1, 2011 - Erin O'Neill
Call me crazy, but there is just something attractive about wild and crazy guys who get in trouble all the time.
OK, maybe it's just me. But I have always had a "thing" for Charlie Sheen. He's tall, dark, handsome, a talented actor and absolutely bat sh*t nutso out of his mind. I love it.
But is this last manic episode of drugs, debauchery and porn stars going too far for even the great Charlie Sheen? Well it certainly is great press. He's no idiot. But when Lindsay Lohan expresses concern for your well being, that can't be good.
Call it human nature I guess. Some people just love to hear about other people's royal screw-ups. It's why National Enquirer is still in business and TMZ has its own TV show. We love to see others in misery.
But my own personal interest in all things Sheen actually goes back to when Charlie was a legitimate movie actor and also stems from my love and admiration of his dad, Martin, one of the greatest and most underrated actors of all time, an Ohio native and frequent contributor to my college alma mater.
"Wall Street" and "Platoon" rank high on my list of favorites. Each film elicits a different powerful response and Charlie is at his best when he's being dramatic and pompous. But he can also do comedy, even if he is playing a lesser version of himself as Charlie Harper on "Two and a Half Men".
Who knows what will happen after this latest ordeal. Will Charlie finally get the help he needs and do we really want him to? Will Martin issue an ultimatum? Are the powers-that-be at CBS going to continue to coddle him and what of poor, poor Jon Cryer? It all remains to be seen but I, for one, am riveted.
