The Fire In The Attic

POSTED:Thu, April 3, 2008 @ 7:03PM

Politics, slogans and apathy

What have we come to expect from our politicians? Actually, you know what, don’t answer that question. My greater point was to accentuate how they have basically become media hungry celebrities who are constantly trying to directly or indirectly out-do one another.
Indirectly, we have that genius Eliot Spitzer or directly we have Mr. Richardson, to whom I will turn the spotlight on in this blog. Mr. Marvin Richardson has officially changed his name to Pro-Life Richardson for the sole purpose of getting his name to appear on the ballot that way. Running as in independent for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the hilariously gay Larrg Craig from Idaho. I mean, this man should just come out of the closet/bathroom stall already.
I digress. I see a disturbing trend soaring across America and I’m not sure I like it. I mean, look at us. We have politicians changing their names to political stances just in order to gain our attention. Sure, this is some sort of hyperbolic/I’m-sorry-so-very-real situation, but what will it take for us to pay attention to politics in this country?
We have one of the most historic presidential nomination races in the history of nomination races surging through every state right now as each candidate is attempting to destroy the other, a war being waged that has recently hit its five-year anniversary, and a presumptive Republican nominee who doesn’t understand that condoms prevent disease and still American Idol ratings are through the roof while our apathy skyrockets.
All right, that one episode where they all covered Beatles songs was pretty good.
Alright, I guess my point is, is that I want more people to listen to NPR so I can have more friends to talk about it with.
