A Simple Winter by Rosalind Lauer
November 21, 2011 - Amy Phelps
Enjoy a story of warm romance, mystery and faith in "A Simple Winter" by Rosalind Lauer.
Part of the "Seasons of Lancaster" series, this story follows journalist Remy McCallister as she has a chance meeting with a handsome man on a train. She is going home to her estranged father in Philadelphia while he is going home to take care of his younger siblings in the wake of his parents' murder. But that is not all. Adam is returning home to the Amish way of life, after living for a few years among the Englishers. Remy is captivated by him and can't forget about him.
Meanwhile, Adam is trying to fold back into his way of life and focusing on raising his brothers and sisters, especially his frightened younger brother, Samuel, who witnessed his parents' death and is left traumatized, claiming a "bear" shot them. While his friends and relatives want to see Adam settled down with an Amish girl, Adam's sights are not on romance at the moment.
He and Remy cross paths again at a marketplace, and they are once again, drawn to each other. When Remy's editor is convinced Adam's story would make a good article, she is sent to Lancaster to investigate. But when a snowstorm hits, Remy is set to experience a simple life with Adam and his family, and not only that, discover just who killed his father. By the time the storm ends will the murder be solved? And will Adam and Remy's love be doomed?
This is a simple and sweet story of family and faith set amid the Amish life. Those looking for a cozy romance should look no further.
"A Simple Winter" is published by Ballantine Books. It is $15.
