Paper Thin Walls

POSTED:Fri, April 11, 2008 @ 4:11PM

Who knew Waldo was such a chick magnet?

I don't have a TV, so it's sometimes hard to entertain guests, particularly guests of the female persuasion. When do I pull the ole yawn arm stretch if not during a movie? In a moment of brillance/hilarity/genius/oh-my-gawd-this-is-actually-working, I  pulled out my collection of vintage Where's Waldo books on a second date recently and the girl swooned in my arms. I didn't know she swooned at the time, but I was told later she did. Well, not physically, not really. But she did love that game of Where's Waldo.

Apparently, our traveling barber pole is now in Vancouver, the West Virginia of Canada. An artist has painted his likeness on an undisclosed rooftop in our northerly neighbor's third largest city. The game now is played on Google Earth, not some lame-o book. Psh, books are so 2003.

If there ever comes a time when I ask this girl to marry me, I think I'll do it via a large painted Waldo on a rooftop somewhere, holding a sign, saying Will You Marry Me? I'm sure she'll swoon — after she stops laughing at me.

I don't think she would laugh at you. I think she would swoon and call you the coolest Papa Bear on the face of the planet.
