Don Knotts FestivalI had no idea he was from West Virginia, but apparently every one else around me did. I was also shocked to find out Bob Denver, aka Gilligan, was from the Mountain State too. Anyway, here's the release. Sounds like a great, worthwhile event: Morgantown, WV - Don Knotts, beloved by many as Deputy Barney Fife on “The Andy Griffith Show”, is being remembered and honored at the Don Knotts Hometown Celebration on July 18 and 19, 2008 in Morgantown, WV. While many people knew Don’s characters, not everyone knew Don personally - as a young man growing up in Morgantown, as a fellow student and graduate of Morgantown High School and West Virginia University, as a friend, or as a favorite relative. If you are one of these individuals or a fan who has a memory of meeting Don, please contact JoAnn Peterson at mountaineer@atlanticbb.net or 304-329-6330, about being part of “A Hometown Remembers Don Knotts”, the opening event for the two-day festival. The program will be held on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Metropolitan Theater, 369 High Street, Morgantown, WV where Don performed in his youth and where you’ll find his star in the sidewalk, just outside the door. The evening will be filled with personal remembrances of Don Knotts. The following day, on Saturday, July 19, many activities are planned including two performances by Don’s daughter, Karen Knotts, doing her one-woman “Tied Up in Knotts” show at the Metropolitan Theater with David “Mayberry Deputy” Browning also providing entertainment.
