The Fire In The Attic

Up Up & Away: The Super Delegate EditionBut in fact, back in March, Hillary Clinton was firm on her stance against Michigan and Florida … that is, in the other direction. "It's clear, this election they're having is not going to count for anything," Clinton said in an interview on New Hampshire Public Radio's call-in program, "The Exchange." Of course, fast-forward to now, when the Clinton machine desperately needs those votes and it’s all rah rah rah, and something about representation. I know it’s a difficult issue for the residents of Michigan and Florida. They want to be heard and people want their votes to count, but a state cannot up and move their primary date in an attempt to be more influential. Hell, even West Virginia had a chance to be influential when our time came. But this blog is not about Hillary. I guess at this point it’s pointless to speak about her. She’s going to do whatever she’s going to do. What I’m more interested/frustrated by is something not many people are talking about. And even if they are, it’s not being listened to. I’m talking about those pesky yet very real appendages to the Democratic Party’s monster body, the Super Delegates. Please, please don’t ask me where these people came from, all you need to know is that they are an ugly and irresponsible stringent addition to a party who’s, well, let’s face it, has had some problems in the past seven years. Nonetheless, they are a reality and this reality needs to get off their butts right now. What are they waiting for? Nothing, I repeat, nothing is going to happen in Puerto Rico, South Dakota or Montana that’s going to deter Sen. Clinton from destroying this party from the inside out. Why not come out and show your support for the candidates right now? But just like the naïve euphoria that hits when you realize that the four year old you’re talking to doesn’t understand your ramblings about your day at work, a politician (let alone a bunch of them) will always be a politician and logical solutions hardly ever come from the bureaucrats in from the District of Columbia. Why are they hanging onto their votes? Is it vanity? The prolonged and societal detached feeling of power they gain from the country’s bated breath? Those reasons seem likely, but it very well can bee that they are idiots. And this journalist is going with idiots. You might also be thinking, “Wait a minute Mr. Spanner, shouldn’t they wait until Rules and Bylaws Committee to meet May 31st?” No. The Rules and Bylaws Committee will meet to discuss seating the delegate from Florida and Michigan, but even that scenario is not going to work out well for Sen. Clinton. At least not enough to make a difference at this point. Hell, Sen. Obama didn’t even have his name on the Michigan ballot. It’s time for the Super Delegates to stand up and cast their votes before this race is drug through the mud any longer. And it’s a good thing they are all tuned to this blog. At least you are, reader. Let us know what you think! Comment and let your voice be heard!
