Something Appropriate

POSTED:Fri, June 27, 2008 @ 6:58PM

college music flashback

After converting all music I own into itunes capable mp3, i glanced through all the music (there was a lot) and picked out a few old cd's to burn again for use in my truck. Since not all vehicles has that lovely aux. input, and i ran my iTrip through the washer, i have been using good ol' CDs lately. anyway, enough of my lead, here are the old CD's I determined were worth having hard copies of again. These were all from high school and college I guess.

1. PJ Harvey — Is This Desire?
People like "Dry" or "Rid of Me", but i think "Desire" is the best work she's ever put out. and that is saying something. It's easily one of the sexiest album ever made, and the driving bass lines carry the album and set such an solid mood, listening is almost an experience in itself.

2. The Flaming Lips — The Soft Bulletin
I know, I know. But I already have thirty copies of "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" laying around, and i liked this album too.   "Waiting for Superman" and "Race for the Prize" are great, and the whole thing has a spellbinding vibe. Not as good as "Yoshimi", but still pretty freakin' good.

3. Gomez — Liquid Skin
I can never remember if this was their first album or not, but "We Haven't Turned Around" never gets old. I like "How We Operate", but Liquid Skin definately has that 'raw' quality that only comes from a band early on.

4. Soul Coughing — Lust in Phaze: The best of Soul Coughing
I usually prefer real albums, but I only have "Ruby Vroom" in its entirety, and i like so many of their other songs i have to go compilation here. "Sugar Free Jazz" "St. Louis is Listening" and even "Circles"  are just something you  have to hear every so often.

5. Beta Band — Hot Shots II
Peaceful stuff. Like electronic easy-listening that doesn't suck. You gotta be in the right mood though.
