Paper Thin Walls

POSTED:Fri, August 8, 2008 @ 10:29AM

Rich People Rooftops

I returned recently from a trip to Chicago. Beautiful city. As a lifelong Appalachian who happens to love living where he does, but yearns for more diversity and culture, the trip was a boon.

Millennium Park had some gorgeous man-made structures, like this giant mirrored bean that offers stunning 360 degree panoramic views of the city. The Sears Tower literally towered over the rest of the buildings in the city. From the L, I could spot porch gardens and wall murals.

But, as often happens in my forays to big cities, I was left feeling empty by my surroundings. Where were the trees, the lakes, the mountains? Where was the beauty?

I get a feeling most city dwellers miss this natural beauty too, which is why I find this  Flicker set of rich people's rooftops in New York City so fascinating.
