Getting an artist on the phone often is much harder than actually interviewing one. Usually it takes two or three tries to actually get them on the phone, and then there’s the inevitable spotty cell phone service, which adds an extra layer of tension to an already awkward discussion between two people who know their plumber better than each other.
And of course it was no different with Michael Franti, the political folk, hip-hop, reggae singer/songwriter headlining All Good next weekend. After a five-minute delay, I’m finally on the phone with Franti’

POINT — Robots are Awesome
June 30, 2008
Robots are awesome. I mean, it should be obvious. They are metal and cool. Sure, sometimes they turn on us, their not-always-benevolent masters, but for the most part they amuse us with their desire to be like us.
Let’s

New Moleskin In, Fresh Ideas Out
Thu, July 3, 2008 @ 4:12PM
I love Moleskin journals. I haven't used any other kind since I bought my first one several years ago. My reasons for the Moleskin love are many, including the simple design, the rich history ("A Moveable Feast" and "The Sun Also Rises" were allegedly written on Moleskins), the durability, and the ease to which you can personalize them. At any given time, I have three different Moleskins on my person (one in my pocket, another dayplanning one and another one for work and larger musings). And of course, Lupe Fiasco loves them. My girlfriend just got me a new one, with Steampunk etchings on the front cover. I've only recently begun compartmentalizing my journals into various uses, and it's enhanced my journaling greatly. So, I'm looking for some

Demo by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan
Mon, July 7, 2008 @ 3:24PM
June is the official start of summer, so I'm kicking off the season with a new book a week that you should be sticking in a beach bag to take on vacation, or just relaxing with in the backyard along with a glass of sweet tea. This week's is a graphic novel offering. Be sure to check back every Monday for a new feature! The creators of DMZ and American Virgin team up to create a new story of young people on the verge of life-altering decisions in Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan's "Demo," for the first time collected in one volume. Each of the twelve stories contained inside is of a young person on the cusp of something big - whether it be a new life somewhere else under new circumstances or a death. They are going to have to grow up in their own, unique way. And for many of the stories, this isn't your average person. There is a girl trying to escape to a new life with her boyfriend to New York and the drugs her mother forces her to be on. There is another

Into The End...
Thu, June 12, 2008 @ 10:23AM
Into The End: I was born in Oxford but grew up in Marietta, Why Douglas Adams will always speak for me (even in death), or Why I haven't slept since January 2005 There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. - Douglas Adams I was born in Wheeling, West Virginia at four o’clock in the morning on September 10th, 1984. I moved to Cincinnati when I was two and then moved to Martins Ferry, Ohio at 5. At 18, I went away to college for my first year, came back home over the summer, and then moved my family to Parkersburg, West Virginia. In the fall I returned to Oxford to finish college, lived a summer in London, England, and then spent a y

Batman: The Movie
Tue, July 8, 2008 @ 3:16PM
The original Baman movie from the '60s was awesome. here are some of the more memorable quotes (thanks to the lovely imdb of course.) Batman surfing alone was worth watching it for... Batman: We've been given the plainest warning. They're working together to take over... Chief O'Hara: Take over *what*, Batman? Gotham City? Batman: Any *two* of them would try that! Commissioner Gordon: The whole country? Batman: If it were three of them, I would say yes, but *four*? Their minimum objective must be... the *entire* world. Batman
