Wash that 2009 out of your hair

Did you feel that? That’s 2010 slapping you in the face. It’s telling you that you have to get that 2009 out of your head. It’s over, OK? No more calling, no more drunk dialing, no more e-mails, no more anything. 2009 is done with you and you should be over 2009; she’s actually happier without you. Onward, dear friends! Into the future! Into the fray!

With the albums coming out just in February and March alone it’s bound to be one hell of a year. Winter thinks he’s got you beat, but you know better. The 2010 crop is full of the familiar yet brilliant. It’s full of music to get you through the grey winter days. It’s full of artists you’ve been pining for years to make a new album. Who saw the David Byrne & Fatboy Slim collaboration? Well, all I can say is that even without hearing any of it, it’s going to be 200 percent better than Broken Bells (the guy from the Shins and DJ Danger Mouse).

But I really don’t want to spoil any of this brand new year for you. This year has been the year everyone has been waiting two years for, right?

It’s an exciting time to be alive, even if the Democrats no longer have a supermajority and Conan no longer has the “Tonight Show.” It’ll be OK if all this music coming out this year is as good as it seems; don’t worry: Hope has died, Hope has been resurrected, and Hope will come again. You gotta give ‘em hope.
